Printer manufacturer creates the next generation of smart IOT data hub

By Sharon Clark , 22 March 2017

Martel Instruments, based in the UK, have launched a brand new smart IoT (Internet of Things) enabled compact printer in the US and across Europe that will significantly enhance healthcare, automotive, analytical, monitoring and measurement equipment products.

The company that was founded in 1982, is a global supplier to OEM device manufacturers. For the last twenty years Martel have manufactured and supplied compact printers that embed and connect to other products giving them a printing capability.

However in March this year the business launched VIDA 4.0, a solution that gives so much more to the devices that it supports, than just printing.

 Keith Walker, Martel’s MD tells us;

“This is an extremely exciting time for us and manufacturers across the globe. We have pushed our boundaries to bring a brand new innovative and smart product to the market. We have created a new device that not only gives the power of print to an existing device but it will also provide additional features, without the need for the OEM to change their product and incur additional development costs.”

He goes on to explain;

“VIDA 4.0 has been developed after spotting an opportunity to turn existing products into data and internet friendly solutions, resulting in a more powerful and attractive proposition for the end user.

VIDA 4.0 simply connects to the device that it supports either by USB or wirelessly and can instantly take the data from it, store it, print it and send it to secure cloud based services, meaning the data can be accessed and analysed remotely, bringing a whole new dimension to the primary product’s capabilities.”

Products such as healthcare devices, security systems, environmental monitors, measuring equipment and testing equipment will be benefit from the added features that VIDA 4.0 will give them.

Keith concludes:

“The value that this IOT data hub adds to the products that it supports is extremely high.

We wanted to bring to market a product that will solve the pain that our buyers have in terms of product development. We are in a world of digital, data and cloud based solutions, but there is still a need for print. VIDA 4.0 gives our customers and their end users a smart printing solution that provides so much more."

Summary of Embedded World

By Sharon Clark , 20 March 2017

Everyone here at Martel can't quite believe that our exhibiting is over ..... for now!

From Tuesday the 14th of March to Thursday the 16th we have been in Nuremberg, Germany not only exhibiting at Embedded World, but also launching VIDA 4.0 to the European market.

Some of the Martel team headed out on Sunday so they were ready to get the booth set up on Monday, ready for the start of the show!

(L-R, Matthew, Chris, Sharon & Keith)

When we arrived our booth started off looking like this ....

But in no time at all we had it all unpacked, and show ready.

Our first time exhibiting at Embedded World, we had an extremely successful show, and had a lot of interesting conversations, with potential new customers and distributors. We also had the chance to catch up with some of our current partners, including Admatec, Optologic and GeBE Elektroniks.

Our first day exhibiting, we were given a blast from our past, when a customer stopped by our booth with a Martel antique calculator, from a show giveaway many years ago.

Embedded World, was trending in Nuremberg, for the duration of the show, alongside keywords such as, 'cloud', 'technology' and 'IOT' which fit in perfectly for our launch of VIDA 4.0.

VIDA 4.0 is our latest product, which provides the power to connect, capture, communicate and print. You can find information on the features of VIDA, the applications it can be used in, and more by visiting the VIDA website here.

The show went over in a blink of an eye, and all too soon it was time to pack up and for the booth to head back to Martel Instruments HQ, however it won't be here for long, stay tuned for news coming soon on our next exhibiting adventure!

HIMSS17 Roundup!

By Sharon Clark , 24 February 2017

We can't quite believe that HIMSS17 is over, but what a whirlwind we have had!

Our HIMSS17 adventure technically started back in 2015, when we visited the show in Chicago, this is when we decided that we wanted to exhibit there! Around about this time last year, we started the planning process, booking out booth, and working non-stop to make sure that our products were HIMSS ready!

Our travel adventure began on Thursday the 16th of February when we flew from Newcastle to Dublin, then on to Orlando, Florida!

On Friday the 17th of February it was a trip to the Convention Center to register for our exhibitor badges!

On Saturday the 18th of February it was a busy day, as it was booth set up day! It was all worth it though, because it started off like this

And turned into this all things VIDA 4.0!

It is by far our favourite booth we have had at an exhibition show!

Sunday was a rest day, but it didn't stop us checking out the fact the show was trending on Twitter, a day before it officially began!

Then it was onto Monday the 20th of February, our first official day of exhibiting at HIMSS!

On Tuesday we had a great time exploring HIMSS17 and seeing how other companies use their data effectively. We also were joined by our American partners Current Components at the booth, whilst discussing our upcoming training day with them at Current HQ in Maryland next week!

On day 3 and our last day exhibiting at HIMSS17, our managing director Keith Walker dropped by our booth!

And before we all knew it, it was Thursday and it was time to begin dismantling everything and packing the booth all up again ready for our next stop!

Our booth is currently being shipped over to Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany when we will be exhibiting from Tuesday the 14th to Thursday the 16th of March, and you can visit us in Hall 3 / 3-461!

Meanwhile the team in America are currently on their way to visit our partners Schuster Electronics on Monday for VIDA 4.0 training, and on Tuesday its Current Components turn!

Martel scores 100% satisfaction

By jonny cheetham, 28 April 2014

At Martel we are always looking for ways to continue to improve our service. Which is why we have recently implemented a customer feedback process starting off with a round of telephone surveys.

We are delighted to report that of the first 50 customers to date surveyed – they all have rated that they are all satisfied with Martel’s customer service.

Joanne Hockaday, Martel’s Commercial Manager, tells us;

“The reason why we are carrying out this survey is to help us to find out what we can do differently to improve our whole offering to our customers.

Quality is at the heart of what we do – and to hear that we have a 100% satisfaction score so far in our customer service is simply outstanding.”

Joanne goes onto explain;

“The survey isn’t a one off - as we will be continually measuring a number of areas of our service to find out what our customers would like to see us providing.

We have also opened this up to an online survey for our customers – so that they can feedback to us at anytime.”

If you are a customer – why not have your say?  Complete the online survey today:
